What Do I Do Now - I Just Set Up My Blog?

If you show this to your wife or your partner and they say, "The blog looks good. What do we do next?" the answer is:

What we have to do next is to get people or traffic to our wonderful new blog so that we can generate interest either in something we want to sell down the road or information we want to give away so that we can make money when people click on our google adsense ads.

In my case I prefer the idea of giving information away to begin with in order to create a following. I can tell people what I have to offer by using pay per click advertising or doing an e-mail campaign. Both of these cost money.

I don't mind giving information away as long as it isn't costing me anything, but my time so I choose to create traffic by writing articles about my area of interest - guess what that is - and posting my blog address at the bottom of the article (resource box) so people can click on it and come to my blog. You don't need to be a writer to do this. You just need to have an interest in and knowledge of a particular area of interest.

Let's say for example your area of interest is fly fishing.

You could start by saying:

Please feel free to use this article as long as credit is given to the resource box
(C) Copyright Jack Smith, 2008
Keywords: Fly Fishing, Hooks, Tricks, Secrets of
Words: I recommend articles of 500 to 1000

Then write the article about whatever information you want to share with your readers about fly fishing in short to the point paragraphs. I do not recommend you pay attention to keywords at first. Just say what you have to say naturally.

Then end by saying something like:

Hi, this is Jack Smith. If you would like to find out more of my secrets on fly fishing please visit http://jsflyfishing.blogspot.com (There is no www in a blog address)

There are many ways to refine this and things to add, but this should be enough for now. You can hot link your URL with ahref etc, but that may confuse you and most article directories worth their salt do this for you automatically.

Try and come up with a snappy title and using a list of 10 things to do or how to do seven things to help you catch a fish are often good ways to go.

Oh, I almost forgot to tell you to submit the article to at least 10 Article Distribution houses interested in fly fishing otherwise no one is going to see it. You can find the lists on google or yahoo groups. This is called making a submission. Don't forget to read their submission guidelines. It takes time at first, but it can really be worth it in terms of creating traffic that will last for years.

A partial list of who I would submit to would include
www.alumbo.com
www.arrivenet.com
www.articlebase.com
www.amazines.com
www.ideamarketer.com
www.ezinearticles.com
www.goarticles.com
www.selfgrowth.com
www.xomba.com

If you have any questions, please post them in the comment section, and I will try and answer them.

Regards,

Arthur
